Espresso machine listings show the machine, not the setup. A working espresso corner also needs a grinder, a scale, a tamper and a knock box or bin, plus room to lift lids, fill tanks and move a portafilter. This guide adds it up from stated dimensions.

The Breville Bambino and Barista Pro are left out of the drawings because their published dimensions are unlabelled or conflict; see their reviews.

Three example setups

Overhead space

NKBA's planning guideline calls for at least 15 in (381 mm) of clearance above a 24 in deep counter (NKBA). Tall hopper grinders and all-in-one machines can exceed that before you lift a lid.

The pieces people forget

Recommendation

Measure width, depth and the height under your cabinets first, then add a hand's width around each appliance. For the smallest footprint with a real upgrade path, I'd look at a Bambino-class machine plus a compact single-dose grinder.
