"54 mm" and "58 mm" describe a portafilter format, not a guarantee that every basket, tamper, funnel or screen will fit. The ears, basket depth and exact inner diameter vary. This guide lists what each maker states about fit for the machines we've reviewed.

What a nominal size does not tell you
- Basket inner diameter: a 58.5 mm tamper can be tight in some 58 mm baskets. Normcore sells 58 and 58.5 mm versions for that reason.
- Basket depth and headspace: a puck screen takes space. Normcore suggests using 0.5–1 g less coffee in very full baskets.
- Ears and lugs: Normcore sells two-ear and three-ear 51 mm portafilters for different De'Longhi machines.
- Cradles and holders: Normcore says its 54 mm funnel cannot sit in the Barista Express's built-in grinder cradle.
Recommendation
Buy accessories that name your exact machine, measure the basket where fit is tight, and treat "fits 58 mm" as a starting point.
